These are some of the words we can use to make questions. We usually put these words at the beginning of a question. We follow them with the question forms of the verb. There is a question mark at the end of the sentence instead of a full stop.



¨ What are you going to do? Why are you here?

Who is that boy? Where do you live?

When is your birthday? How old is she?

How are you? How many children does he have?

Which one do you want? Whose book is this?





When we use question words, the answers give information.

They are not yes/no answers.



¨ What's your name? When is your birthday?

Mary. It's on June, 14th.



Who is that? Why are you late?

It's Greg. Because I missed the bus.



How old are you? Where are you form?

I'm 21. Rio de Janeiro.



Questions which have yes/no answers do not begin with questions words. They begin with verbs.



¨ Is this your book? Do you study in the morning?

Yes, it is. No, I don't.
